Babes in Boyland, Scotland
I missed this last night, so first of all, happy new year dearest!
5) Which mental block(s) did you overcome?
I wouldn’t say I’m quite there yet, but I’ve come a long way in terms of burnout recovery, (health) anxiety, and perfectionism. They certainly don’t influence my day-to-day life the way they all did at one point or another this year. I definitely took big steps in the right direction, and I can see the potential for closing off that chapter.
And asking for help! The thought of asking for an extension, for example, mortified me before this year. I thought it was a sign of weakness and incompetence (everyone has the same amount of time, if you don’t get a certain thing done it’s only due to your personal bad time management – yet asking for an extension, on time, can actually be a sign of good understanding of your personal time and wellbeing – a revelation!).
8) What book or movie affected your life in a profound way?
Nothing came to mind instantly, sadly, which says enough I think. I mostly wanted an escape through reading and watching, and thus I sought out those things that least connected me to my own life, and which didn’t have much impact as a result. I’ve good faith 2019 will be different, though.
1) What single achievement are you most proud of?
Landing my current job!
4) Which new skills did you learn?
Programming, data analysis, pilates and yoga if those count as a skill.
2) What was your favourite place that you visited during the year?
Well, sadly, this was year without much travel of any kind, so I’m going to say Antwerp, which is the only real ‘trip’ I took. Other than that, I’ve really enjoyed getting to know my own city better.

Embracing failure without acknowledging the real hurt and fear that it can cause, or the complex journey that underlies rising strong, is gold-plating grit. To strip failure of its real emotional consequences is to scrub the concepts of grit and resilience of the very qualities that make them both so important – toughness, doggedness, and perseverance.
[…] If we are brave enough often enough, we will fall; this is the physics of vulnerability.
